GST and tax invoices
本頁尚未翻譯成中文,以下為英文原文。
Singapore’s Goods and Services Tax, or GST, is a tax on supplies of goods and services. A GST-registered business such as a fictional GST-registered Lim & Co must account for GST on its taxable supplies.
Why it works this way
Section titled “Why it works this way”The prevailing GST rate is 9%. A business that is not GST-registered must not charge GST or issue a tax invoice as if it were registered.
An amount excluding GST is the base charge before tax. An amount including GST is the customer’s total after the applicable GST has been added.
The words TAX INVOICE identify a document intended to meet tax-invoice requirements. For a full tax invoice, IRAS requires information including a unique invoice number and date, supplier name and address, GST registration number, customer name and address, a description of the supply, the GST rate, and totals before GST, for GST and including GST.
The document heading alone does not make the information correct. Keep your organisation details, customer details, tax treatment and amounts accurate before relying on the document as a tax invoice.
How it relates
Section titled “How it relates”GST settings affect line items and the invoice total. Once an invoice is issued, its tax settings and line details are locked with the rest of the financial facts.
For example, Lim & Co’s taxable line items contribute to the amount before GST, the GST amount and the grand total. A correction after issue belongs in the financial history rather than in a rewritten invoice.
- GST: Singapore’s Goods and Services Tax.
- GST-registered business: A business registered with IRAS to account for GST.
- Tax invoice: An invoice containing the information required for GST purposes.
- GST-exclusive amount: An amount before GST is added.
- GST-inclusive amount: An amount after GST is included.
Common misunderstandings
Section titled “Common misunderstandings”- Not every business may charge GST. Registration status matters.
- The 9% rate does not mean every supply has the same tax treatment. Zero-rated and exempt supplies have different rules.
- A heading cannot compensate for missing or incorrect tax-invoice information.

Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”GST forms part of the invoice described in A quotation offers; an invoice creates an amount to collect. Its locked status after issue is explained in Issuing an invoice protects its identity.
